Last year, the first season of the super-popular series ended on Disney+ with an epic climax. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was thrust into an alternate timeline reality after he and Sylvie (Sofia Do Martino) came face-to-face with The One Who Remains, aka Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). The All-Knowing suggested that these two completely change the rules of the game - take possession of the Sacred Timeline (TVA) and see all the temporal layers together. The matter was complicated only by the fact that Loki and Sylvie, two versions of the same trickster god, and by the law of the universe cannot act together. However, there is no problem for Loki when he is in love, and Sylvie has aroused strong emotions in him. He set out to take possession of TVA in order to stay close to his girlfriend. She, on the other hand, had other plans - to kill Kang. After giving Loki a passionate kiss, she pushed him through the portal so she could accomplish her plan and set the universe free. Loki wakes up to find that Morbius (Owen Wilson) doesn't recognize him. It turns out that the protagonist of the series has found himself in the wrong time dimension. But wiill he manage to come back?
Disney+ informed viewers in additional scenes of the final episode that "Loki" will return with a second season and so will Dee Martino. The MTV Movie and TV Award winner Award said that Sylvie will experience devastation after losing Loki and killing Kang. "That final moment is just a total disappointment," she explained in a July 2021 interview with Marvel.com. "She (Sylvie) thought she would be relieved to get what she had dreamed of all her life. After all, she's given up a lot for it, finally killed a powerful guy. But in doing so, she feels nothing--just a kind of anger, bitterness, and sadness--the kind that has always been with her. It's just a void, and it's sad, really." But, according to Di Martino, there is a silver lining and now is a good time to further develop Sylvie's storyline. "What she does with that sadness will be shown in season two. It's an interesting place to start for the next installment," the actress noted.
Although most of the main role performers will return, director Kate Herron will not be on set with them. "I'm really happy to watch next season as a viewer," she told Deadline. "I have a lot to be proud of, I've given this project my whole self." Herron will be replaced on the set by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, known for their work on "Moon Knight."
When will the new season of Loki premiere?
The release is scheduled for the summer of 2023. Marvel Studios confirmed this information at Comic-Con in San Diego in July, a month after filming began. The exact release date is not yet known, but new episodes are expected to appear on a weekly basis after the premiere on Disney+.
Who will be in the cast?
Hiddleston and Dee Martino will return as Loki and Sylvie. Wilson has been seen on set as Morbius. Gugu Embata-Raw, who visited Good Morning America in February, has announced that she will play Ravonna Rainslayer. Eugene Cordero confirmed to Screen Rant that he will return as Casey, the Sacred Timeline agent.
What's season two of "Loki" about?
Marvel Studios doesn't like spoilers, so details of the new season are being kept secret for now. However, screenwriter Michael Waldron has promised that there will be a strong emotional arc. "During the making of the show, the first thing that comes first for me, and I appreciate it most, is that we can find a new story to tell with this character," he explained to Deadline's Hero Nation podcast in May. "It feels like we've found new emotional ground for Loki. It's the only way to get into season two. We've definitely found it. It's a great sequel to a story that's different from the first season and hopefully lives up to expectations."
Will there be more versions of the characters?
No confirmation yet, but it's already safe to say that viewers will see more versions of characters from parallel time continuums on screen.
Where is season two filmed?
Although the first batch of episodes was filmed in Atlanta, the second season is filmed in London. It's doubly convenient for Tom Hiddleston, Sofia Di Martino and Gugu Embath-Raw, since they are natives of Great Britain.
Why does Sylvie have a new look?
Di Martino was spotted on set this month dressed in the style of the McDonald's uniforms common in the seventies, with a new mullet-like hairstyle. As far as "Loki" is concerned, fans have suspected that they have seen a new Sylvie, a different version of the character from the first season. Whether or not this is true will not be known until next year, when the second season of the series will appear on Disney+.
