Universal's new series "The family friend" will consist of nine episodes and describe events in the life of one average American family - the Brobergs. Their eldest daughter Jen, aged 12 to 14, was kidnapped by a "family friend" - the head of the family, who lived in the neighborhood and closely interacted with the Brobergs.
As an adult, Jen, along with her mother, published the book "Stolen Innocence: The Jen Broberg Story", which formed the basis of the series. The heroine herself acted as its producer. Roles played by Anna Paquin, Colin Hanks, Jake Lacy, McKenna Grace and others.
In a press statement, Jan Broberg urged future viewers of the series not to blame her family, noting that "good people can be manipulated and their children made victims." She explained that the project is meant to help families who have experienced this kind of abuse, as well as those who are trying to prevent similar tragedies from happening in their lives.
"The family friend" will premiere on Peacock on Oct. 6.
